Well hello there!
It's been a while since I last posted one of these (he said, blowing the cobwebs from the blog). How's everyone doing?
Due to being wrapped up in one project or another, I've managed to neglect keeping up with this blog. And social media. And the rest of the world at large. I’m not even sure whose turn it is to be Prime Minister of the UK anymore (does anyone know these days?).
But, seeing as 'tis the Season of Spookiness, I decided to take a quick break from my current projects to write a short Sam Hain story for Halloween. It started out as an idea for a 2000 word short, which quickly grew to 5000, and… Well, by the end of the story, it totalled out at 20,000 words. So it’s not so much of a short story anymore!
I call this new, accidental novella Child’s Play, and it’ll be released on Kindle on the 27th of October. You can find out more about the story below.
The really exciting news is that you can read it right now. For FREE!
Long-suffering subscribers of my mailing list will have already received this Halloween-y gift, but if you aren’t subscribed and fancy reading this new nightmarish novella now, you can receive the free ebook by signing up for my mailing list (a pop-up for which may have already interjected itself over this very blog!) at the bottom of the page. The story will then be conjured directly into your email inbox through technomancy.
It's the perfect accompaniment for the Samhain Season. So get comfortable, light the jack-o'-lantern, sip a pumpkin spice latte (or other seasonal beverage), and I hope you enjoy reading Sam Hain: Child's Play.
Happy Halloween, Blessed Samhain, and a Merry All Hallows' Read unto thee!
Child's Play
Shadwell's abandoned schoolhouse has a long and storied past. Many tell tales of the ghosts and spectres which haunt its corridors: the wayward souls of the ragged school's long-dead pupils; the labourers who lost their lives in the workhouse; those baleful shadows embittered by time and grief.
When an overnight security guard hears the sound of children's laughter echoing through the schoolhouse's old halls, he decides it's best to leave well enough alone. Especially on Halloween. Instead, he calls on the expertise of occult detectives Sam Hain and Alice Carroll to investigate. However, as they venture deeper into Shadwell schoolhouse's shadow, the two supernatural sleuths find themselves dealing with more than they bargained for...
Embark on an adventure into the arcane with Sam and Alice in this all-new, stand-alone Sam Hain - Occult Detective novella.
